If you’re anything like me, at 26 years old you have quite a variety of friends – some are getting married, others are having children, and others are becoming homeowners. Look at us go, we’re blossoming. I have been invited to BBQs, birthday parties, and engagement parties, and for whatever reason I believe that housewarming parties are the hardest to prepare for, mostly because as you’re transitioning into a new place it’s hard to know what you need, what you have, and what you just do not want in your house. So let’s jump into my MUST HAVES for housewarming gifts to turn any house into a home.
1. Candles, Room Spray, Incense – anything that smells like a warm hug
Creating a home begins and ends with scent – not really but it’s a huge thing. If you and your guest are welcomed by an unwelcoming aroma it’s going to leave a mark. You can’t go wrong with candles – however, a few things to consider when purchasing candles or anything scented for someone else: make sure you get a nice calming or warming scent and don’t get something overbearing that might not be something someone else likes.
Some recommendations for scents
- – A Scent Pot with all the fixings
- – Apple / Cinnamon
- – Vanilla
- – Ocean Breeze
- – Pine
- – Buttercream *My personal favorite
- – Fresh Rain
2. Casseroles
I grew up learning that there is nothing more special or personal than a casserole. When you’re going through the process of purchasing a new home, moving in, and doing whatever other homeowner activities you need to do to get your home ready food is probably not high on that list. So most likely you’re getting takeout, fast food, or really easy things like microwave meals. You’re not worried about grocery shopping or meal planning because you’re just trying to get life figured out in your new home. So if someone arrives at your housewarming party with a homemade meal – core memory unlocked, that will mean so much to the owners I guarantee it.
3. Throw Pillows / Blankets
I don’t think you can ever have too many pillows or blankets, so I think this is perfect. The golden rule with pillows and blankets for others; neutrals are your best friends – browns, tans, grays, whites, and creams.
UnHide has a great selection of top-notch pillows and blankets that just make you want to curl up into a ball and let your worries melt away. Again, a need for that homey feel – you won’t be disappointed with any item you select from UnHide whether it’s for you or something else it’s sure to leave a last impression.
4. Drink Bundle
If you know what the drink of choice is for the homeowner, I think it’s super elegant and thoughtful to create a drink bundle with all the fixings to create their signature drink. I was super partial to Mojitos when I drank so things to include in that bundle would be – limes, mint, club soda, flavorings, sugar, glasses, muddler, and Bacardi or any white rum of choice. It’s a way to personalize their house right from the get-go with their favorite drink.
5. Anything Magnolia Table OR Joanna Gaines
I love the Gaines’ and everything they created. They have a passion for warmth, family, cooking, and everything in between. If you have ever been to Target then you have seen their Hearth and Hand Selection and how gorgeous it all is. I’d be lying if I didn’t want Joanna to come and redo the entirety of my house so I could have the elegancy and warmth of everything they offer… However, if you still don’t know what they would like or need from the Hearth and Hand Collection I recommend purchasing the Magnolia Table books – they offer recipes, all things family, and everything in between for those looking to round off the edges of their home and just become more.
